INDICATIONS
:
TAMROSIN capsules are indicated for the treatment of the signs
and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
TAMROSIN capsules are not intended for use as an anti-hypertensive
drug.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION :
•0.4 mg once daily with or without food at the same time every
day. The capsule should be swallowed whole and should not be
crunched or chewed.
• If the patient is unable to tolerate 0.4mg, then the patient
should receive 0.2mg once daily.
• For patients who fail to respond to 0.4mg after 2-4 weeks of
dosing, the dose can be increased to 0.8mg once daily.
• If the drug administration is interrupted or discontinued for a
few days due to any reason at either the 0.4 mg or 0.2 mg dose,
therapy should be started again with the same dose.
• If the patient is receiving 0.8 mg once daily and the drug
administration is interrupted or discontinued for few days due to
any reason, therapy should be started again at 0.4 mg once daily
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
TAMROSIN capsules are contraindicated in patients known to be
hypersensitive to tamsulosin HCl or any component of the
formulation.
When Tamsulosin Hydrochloride Should Not Be Used:
You should not use Tamsulosin Hydrochloride if you have had an
allergic reaction to tamsulosin.
How to Use Tamsulosin Hydrochloride:
Capsule
• Your doctor will tell you how much of Tamsulosin
Hydrochloride to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or
use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
• It is best to take Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 30 minutes after a
meal. Take the medicine at the same time every day.
• Swallow the capsule whole. Do not break, crush, chew, or open
it.
• Tamsulosin Hydrochloride comes with patient instructions. Read
and follow these instructions carefully. Ask your doctor or
pharmacist if you have any questions.
If a dose is missed:
• If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, use it as
soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait
until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not
use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

How to Store and Dispose of Tamsulosin Hydrochloride:
• Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature,
away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
• Ask your pharmacist, doctor, or health caregiver about the best
way to dispose of any leftover medicine after you have finished
your treatment. You will also need to throw away old medicine
after the expiration date has passed.
• Keep all medicine away from children and never share your
medicine with anyone.
Drugs and Foods
to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine,
including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal
products.
• Tamsulosin should not be taken with other alpha blocker
medicines such as doxazosin (Cardura®), prazosin (Minipress®,
Minizide®), or terazosin (Hytrin®).
• Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using fluoxetine
(Prozac®), ketoconazole (Nizoral®), an H2 blocker such as
cimetidine (Tagamet®), or a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin®).
Warnings While Using Tamsulosin Hydrochloride:
• Make sure your doctor knows if you have kidney disease,
liver disease, prostate cancer, low blood pressure, or if you have
an allergy to sulfa drugs such as sulfamethoxazole or
sulfasoxazole.
• Make sure any doctor or ophthalmologist who treats you knows
that you are using Tamsulosin Hydrochloride. You may need to stop
using Tamsulosin Hydrochloride several days before having cataract
surgery or medical tests.
• Tamsulosin Hydrochloride is usually given only to men. It is not
normally given to women or children.
• Tamsulosin Hydrochloride may make you dizzy or drowsy. Avoid
driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be
dangerous if you are not alert.
• Your doctor will need to check your progress at regular visits
while you are using Tamsulosin Hydrochloride. Be sure to keep all
appointments.
Possible Side Effects While Using Tamsulosin Hydrochloride:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side
effects:
• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face
or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest
tightness, trouble breathing.
• Chest pain.
• Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, and body aches.
• Feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings.
• Lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting.
• Painful, prolonged erection of the penis not caused by sexual
arousal.
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your
doctor:
• Back pain.
• Blurred vision.
• Diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting.
• Lack or loss of strength.
• Problems with ejaculation.
• Runny or stuffy nose.
• Tiredness or weakness.
